YOW Jazz, October 29: Funding Drive show
The first Funding Drive for YOW Jazz - featuring mostly new Canadian releases plus a giveaway of a pass for two to the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra’s Harry James show
YOW Jazz has been on the air for only 6 months. This means that the 2024 CKCU Funding Drive will be the first one for this show. I’ve set the fundraising target for the show at 500 dollars - a stretch goal for a new show. If you appreciate the musician interviews, previews of upcoming live performances plus new jazz releases, please consider supporting the show with a donation. Tax receipts (for Canadian listeners) are issued for any donation of 20 dollars or more. Just go to CKCUFM.com and click the “donate now” button. There is a drop down menu of all the shows on the station, and YOW Jazz is last! Or you can go to the YOW Jazz show page and click on “donate now”, right beside the “listen now” button. Your pledge can be processed via Canada Helps (with a credit card), which gives you an instant tax receipt, or you can pledge cash/cheque and a receipt will be issued once the station has received the money.
Hot for Harry (James) concert giveaway
Thanks to the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra, I have a pass for two for either the matinee or evening show of their Harry James tribute show on December 14. I have received reliable information that both shows are sold out. I will be doing a draw from all donors to YOW Jazz of donations of 75 dollars or more. The giveaway contest will run until November 1. Just make sure to include your email address on the donation form, so I can contact the winner.
What I’ll be spinning
For this fundraising show, I’m going to feature new releases from Canadian musicians, highlighting the amazing jazz talent we have in this country. To start, however, I will play some Harry James to give you a taste of what to expect if you win the Hot for Harry pass. Here’s Harry James on the Ed Sullivan Show, playing “Two O’clock Jump”.
We will also hear from the new Teri Parker’s Free Spirits release, Peaks and Valleys. Here’s a video of a track that I will not be playing from that release.
Other artists to be featured on the show are:
Carn Davidson 9
Joel Frahm Trio (with Canadian drummer Ernesto Cervini)
Jocelyn Gould
No Codes
Jacob Chung
Noah Abramse & the Mumbo Jumbo Combo
Sam Wilson
Kayla Ramu
Irene Torres
You can listen live on the air at 93.1 on the FM dial in Ottawa, or online at CKCUFM.com. The show will also be available on demand after broadcast.
Note: the FM antenna at Camp Fortune is being repaired which may result in an interruption in radio transmission - online streaming will continue as normal.
