YOW Jazz, May 13: Atlantic Jazz Collective with Norma Winstone and Joe Labarbera

On this week’s show I preview the upcoming performance of The Atlantic Jazz Collective at the National Arts Centre on Wednesday. I interviewed the three members of the group - Florian Hoefner, Jim Vivian, and Mike Murley.

The Atlantic Jazz Collective grew out of the annual Atlantic Jazz Nights concert series at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

They will be playing music from their first recording, Seascape. The album features compositions of a who’s who of jazz composers, including Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Steve Swallow and Maria Schneider, with lyrics written by Norma Winstone. Also performing will be British jazz vocalist Norma Winstone and American drummer Joe LaBarbera.
