YOW Jazz, July 9: The drummers of the Ottawa Jazz Festival & preview of the Duncan Hopkins Quartet in concert
The 2024 Ottawa Jazz Festival is over - I profile some of the great drummers we heard, plus the Duncan Hopkins Quarter is playing in Brockville on July 20
The Ottawa Jazz Festival is over for another year. There were many good performances and memories, but what stood out for me was the amazing display of excellent drummers. On the first part of the show I will feature some of those drummers.

Duncan Hopkins Quartet
In the last part of the show I will be featuring a preview of an upcoming concert at the Brockville Arts Centre on July 20. I interviewed Duncan Hopkins about his quarter's upcoming concert and we will hear two tracks from last year’s album, “Who Are You?”, a tribute to Kenny Wheeler. All of the members of the quartet have had some connection to Kenny Wheeler and it is evident from the music that they have a lot of respect (and love) for him as a composer.
You can listen live on Tuesday at 11 a.m. on 93.1 FM in Ottawa or online. The show will also be available for on demand streaming after broadcast.
