Rabble Without A Cause, March 12: Belated International Women’s Day show
Featuring new releases from female artists
Last Saturday (March 8) was International Women’s Day. As a belated celebration of that day, the show on Wednesday will feature new releases from female artists from around the world.
Zeena Parkins, composer and harpist, released an album (“Dam Against the Spring Tide”) in November 2024, inspired by discoveries she made combing through the Walter Benjamin archives in Berlin. On the Bandcamp release page, the album is described:
All of these pieces reveal how colors, shapes, codes, scribbles, erasures, puzzles, wordplay, graphology, and imitation as a way of knowing, can be used to initiate musical processes, playing strategies, conversations and ultimately scores.
We will also hear another harpist - Jacqueline Kerrod from South Africa - with Joe Morris on guitar, from the new release “Morpeth Contemporary 2024”.
We will also hear the duo of Alexandra Grimel and Giovanni Di Domenico from their new release, Shakkei. Grimal is on tenor and soprano saxophones, and Di Domenico is on acoustic grand piano, celesta, and pipe organ
We will listen to the just-released single from Macie Stewart’s forthcoming album, “When the Distance is Blue”. Here is the video for the single, “Spring Becomes You, Spring Becomes New”.
The show will end with some Canadian content - Nicola Miller from Nova Scotia. We will hear a track from her very interesting new release, “Living Things”.
You can listen to the show live on Wednesday, March 12 at 11 p.m. at 93.1 FM in the National Capital Region or at CKCUFM.com. The show is also available for on demand streaming.
