Rabble Without A Cause, June 18: Ottawa Jazz Fest preview featuring François Houle’s Secret Lives of Colour

Part 1 of my preview of the avant garde artists at the Festival, including Anna Webber’s Simple Trio, Peter Van Huffel’s CALLISTO, Open Thread and others

There’s a pretty decent lineup of experimental and improvisational performers at this year’s Ottawa Jazz Festival. On the show this week I will be previewing some of that music, including:

• Anna Webber’s Simple Trio

• Peter Van Huffell’s CASTILLO

• Open Thread

• Izumi Kimura & Gerry Hemingway

On the show, you will also hear some of my chat with François Houle about his “Secret Lives of Colour” project. He will be playing on Friday at 9 p.m. at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage. The ensemble will be:

• François Houle - clarinet, basset clarinet, composition

• Joëlle Léandre - bass

• Myra Melford - piano

• Gerry Hemingway - percussion

• Gordon Grdina - guitar/oud
