Rabble Without A Cause, July 3: All Canadian Edition
This week we celebrated Canada Day, and this show features Canadian artists, including Bellbird, Steph Richards, Karoline Leblanc, and Linsey Wellman
Happy Canada Day! On this week’s show I’m featuring Canadian artists - those who have stayed and those who have left. Once a Canadian, always a Canadian (at least for CRTC Canadian content rules - with minor exceptions).
Bellbird is a Montreal-based quartet that opened the Ottawa Jazz Festival. They are on tour and will be playing at the Montreal Jazz Festival on Wednesday night and next week will be playing in Halifax and Fredericton.
Steph Richards is a trumpet player, born and raised in Alberta, now based in New York. We will hear some tracks from her new release, Power Vibe.
Karoline Leblanc is a pianist and composer, born in Rimouski, Quebec and now residing in Portugal. We will hear a track from her album, “Double on the Brim”. On this track she is accompanied by Yedo Gibson on saxophone, Luís Vicente on trumpet, Miguel Mira on cello, and Paulo J. Ferreira Lopes on drums.
Linsey Wellman is a local saxophonist (Ottawa, Ontario), and we will hear two tracks from his 2016 solo release, “Manifesto”.
You can listen to the show live in the Ottawa region at 93.1 on the FM band or online at CKCUFM.com. The show is also available for streaming on demand.
Next week I will be featuring an eclectic mix of new releases.
